Margao: Vasco Sports Club on Thursday held JCT to a goalless draw in its second round match of the ONGC I-League football at the Nehru Stadium here. The match failed to rise to great heights as both the teams put up a sloppy display. JCT, which defeated Dempo in its earlier match, held more of the exchanges in the first-half, but failed to capitalise on three chances it produced with the rival goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani coming to rescue on a couple of occasions. However, JCT coach Sukhwinder Singh expressed satisfaction about his team’s performance although it could not collect full points.
JCT now takes on Mohammedan Sporting at home in its next match on October 11. Vasco, which lost to sporting Clube de Goa in its opening encounter, fielded its three foreigners for the first time, but they did not create much of an impact. The Vasco midfielders also made a lot of errors allowing their rivals to probe more often. JCT had the first chance to score in the eighth minute, but Edwardo directed a low left-footer that went out of the mark after he was fed by a long pass from Amandeep Singh from the right. Four minutes later, he again had an opportunity to score, but this time his well-directed shot was put out by goalkeeper Kattimani. Kattimani again came to his side’s rescue when he tipped the ball over the bar off a free kick from Edwardo in the 20th minute. — PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
