Anand, Bhat in semifinals

New Delhi: Chetan Anand and Arvind Bhat cruised into the semifinals of the Bitburger Open badminton tournament in Germany on Friday.

Fourth seed Anand thumped 10th seed Lithuanian Kestutis Navickas 21-10, 21-17 in 24 minutes, while Bhat defeated compatriot and 16th seed P. Kashyap 21-15, 17-21, 21-15 in a 53-minute contest.

In women’s single, Aditi Mutatkar defeated Germany’s Carola Bott 21-13, 21-10 in just 27 minutes. Meanwhile, the mixed doubles pair of V. Diju and Jwala Gutta defeated fifth seed Denmark duo of Rasmus Bonde and Helle Nielsen 21-14, 21-13 in 24 minutes. — PTI
