Toss up between C. Raghu and Robin Uthappa A decision might be taken on Saturday Bangalore: With the Ranji Trophy season commencing on November 3, the search is on for Karnataka’s probable captain after the current incumbent Yere Goud opted for a transfer back to his earlier team — Railways. Meanwhile, official sources said that the toss up for the State’s captaincy is between C. Raghu and Robin Uthappa and that a decision might be taken on Saturday. Goud, along with V. Cheluvaraj, opted for the transfer and Karnataka coach Vijay Bharadwaj said that the duo had no other option as both are Railway employees. “It was Goud’s decision after the Railways issued a suspension order stating that being an employee he cannot play for another State. He had no choice but to get back and so is the case with Cheluvaraj, who is also a Railway employee,” said Bharadwaj. Goud, after a long association with the Railways team, turned out in Karnataka colours in the last two seasons as he opted to play for his home State citing personal reasons. However, life has come a full circle for him and he will now represent Railways in the forthcoming season. Practice sessionsMeanwhile, a clutch of 20 State probables commenced their practice sessions at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Friday evening. “It is just a warm-up as the accent is on practice matches. We just got back from Maharashtra and we will later play in Andhra and these probables consist of the core group including seniors like Sunil Joshi,” said Bharadwaj © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
