Karachi: Jittery about the security situation in Pakistan, the West Indies women’s cricket team has called off its tour to the troubled country that was scheduled from October 14 to 30. “The West Indies board has sent us official intimation that their women’s team is not coming to Pakistan because they have reservations over their players’ safety and security because of the existing security situation in Pakistan,” a senior official of the board said on Friday. The women’s team was due to play a series of five one-day internationals and twenty20 matches against the Pakistan’s national team as both countries prepare for the women’s World Cup to be held in Australia early next year. The West Indies Cricket Board, however, while cancelling the tour to Pakistan has not disturbed its team’s visit to Sri Lanka from November 5 which will be held on schedule. — PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
