NEW DELHI: Three young women allegedly committed suicide in different parts of the Capital during the past 24 hours. However, no suicide notes were found. Twenty-six-year-old Archana Gupta allegedly hanged herself in her house at Vivek Vihar in the trans-Yamuna area on Saturday. The tragedy came to light in the afternoon when a neighbour came to see Archana and saw her hanging from the ceiling. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead. Her husband Pradeep was at his workplace at the time. Archana married Pradeep, who runs a factory at Loni in neighbouring Ghaziabad, about three years ago and they have an 18-month-old daughter. An inquiry by local Sub-Divisional Magistrate has been initiated. In another incident, 22-year-old newly-married Laxmi committed suicide at R.K. Puram on Friday night. Her husband Bhupender works at a shop in South Extension. Laxmi had married Bhupender about three months ago. Her relatives alleged that she was being tortured for dowry. The local Sub-Divisional Magistrate has initiated an inquiry. Nineteen-year-old Rachna ended her life in the house of her elder sister at Patel Nagar on Friday night. The police found that she had come to see her sister a day earlier. They did not find any suicide note. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
