Tata Motors’ team calls on YSR
Scouting for site: Tata Motors’ Managing Director Ravi Kant and his team members who met Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in Hyderabad on Sunday.
HYDERABAD: A high-level delegation of Tata Motors led by its Managing Director Ravi Kant called on Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday, even as the State Government went all out to woo the automotive giant to set up the Nano car project in Andhra Pradesh.
During a 45-minute meeting with the Chief Minister and the Major Industries Minister J. Geetha Reddy here, Tata Motors officials were offered several incentives as also suitable land identified by the Government in various places for setting up the plant. The Tata team arrived here from Bangalore after holding discussions with Karnataka Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa.
Mr. Ravi Kant told reporters that he had come to Andhra Pradesh to see what the Government was offering for the project. However, the details of the discussion were not divulged and the Tata Motors team left immediately. Later, Dr. Geetha Reddy told newsmen that the visiting delegation was informed about the latest State Industrial Policy announced only on Friday. The team was also told about the pro-active stand taken by the Chief Minister to encourage more industries to come to the State. “We have offered sites in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Nayaudupeta (Nellore) and Hindupur (Anantapur) district,” she said.
Protest by farmers“As they were running short of time, we could take them to Seetarampuram village in Shahbad mandal in Ranga Reddy district,” the Minister added. But even as the Tata team was visiting the site, farmers staged a ‘rasta roko’ opposing the car project. Official sources said the Tata Motors’ team did not give any assurance except saying that they were visiting various States to examine the offers made by them.
