HUBLI: Large and Medium Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani has said that the department had sanctioned Rs. 25 crore for providing basic amenities in the industrial estates of Hubli-Dharwad.

Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, Mr. Nirani said that the department had decided to sanction Rs. 25 crore following complaints regarding lack of basic amenities such as drinking water supply, lighting and proper roads.

He said the amount would be used to develop the Tarihal Industrial Estate, Gokul Road Industrial Estate and the Belur Industrial Estate. Officials had been asked to submit action plan for the development work and accordingly the funds would be released, he added.

The Minister said that there were two Toyota plants in Karnataka and the company had evinced interest in setting up its third plant near Dharwad and the State Government was making efforts to facilitate the same.

The Minister said that the Government was planning to develop Dharwad and Hubli into educational and industrial hubs respectively.

The Minister said it had been proposed to construct Hubli-Dharwad and Dharwad-Belgaum express highways through public private partnerships (PPP).

It had also been proposed to develop industrial corridors which would pass through the districts of north Karnataka. Delhi-based Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Ltd (IL&FS) along with Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI) had been appointed as consultants to look into the proposals.

To a question, Mr. Nirani said that in the first 100 days of the BJP Government, investment proposals to the tune of Rs. 1,00,000 crore had been cleared and efforts were on to attract more investors to the north Karnataka region.
