‘TRS tie-up with Left most opportunistic’

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Sunday described the attempts by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao to join hands with the Communist Party of India and the CPI (M) as the “most opportunistic.”

Even if the parties themselves forget about the charges and counter-charges made by them till a few months ago on the Telangana issue, the people were not ready to forget them, AICC secretary P. Sudhakar Reddy said here on Sunday.

Talking to The Hindu, he wondered what had happened to Mr. Rao’s Telangana policy as the CPI (M) had been stating that it was for the unified Andhra Pradesh.

He alleged that the Left parties had dumped their policies and programmes and shamelessly came forward to join with the TRS just with a one-line agenda of defeating the Congress.

The AICC secretary said that even as Mr. Rao was desperate to gain votes by commercialising the Telangana issue, his party was slowly disintegrating.

The organisation had already split into three in the Telangana area, he claimed.

Mr. Reddy, who is in charge of Congress affairs in Gujarat and Goa, was confident that due to the growing popularity of the Congress among the people in Andhra Pradesh, it would easily retain power in the coming Assembly election.

The designs of the Telugu Desam Party too would be foiled by the people as they were yet to forget the “misrule” of N. Chandrababu Naidu, Mr. Reddy said.
