Kancheepuram and Erode spikers win

Tirupur: Kancheepuram and Erode clinched the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively in the State sub-junior volleyball championship at the Angel College of Engineering and Technology courts, here late on Saturday.

The results: Final: Boys: Kancheepuram bt Coimbatore 27-25, 25-20. Girls: Erode bt Chennai 25-19, 25-27, 26-24, 25-20.

Gopinath reigns

R. Gopinath of Coimbatore Golf Club turned in another special performance to clinch the Centenary Open (Medal Play) in the 39th Nilgiri Autumn golf meet at the Ooty Gymkhana Club course in Udhagamanadalam on Sunday.

CGC’s P.R. Ramakrishnan, with 158 gross, secured the second spot.

Host Annamalai blanked Bharathidasan 4-0 in a semifinal league encounter of the South Zone inter-university hockey tournament in Chidambaram on Sunday.

Chezian sizzles

Bharath Chezian picked up five for 32 as host Coimbatore scored an innings and 139-run win over Kanyakumari and entered the quarterfinals of the TNCA under-16 inter-district cricket tournament at the SNR Sons College grounds in Coimbatore on Sunday.
