Sterlite gesture to student

HELP: Cheque being handed over to R. Vijayakumar.

Tuticorin: As part of corporate social responsibility initiative, Sterlite Industries has sponsored the tuition fee for the higher education of R .Vijayakumar, a first year student of Anna University, Coimbatore. Joseph J.M. Peeris, General Manager – Human Resources, SIIL, and S. Ponraj, panchyat president, Therku Veerapandiyapuram, presented a cheque for Rs.15000, towards tuition fee of the fist academic year to Mr. Vijayakumar on the Sterlite premises.

Hailing from a poor family in Tuticorin, he who was a bright student in Government Polytechnic, Tuticorin, was unable to join higher studies though he secured good marks in his diploma studies as his family was fighting penury.

Rangamurugan, the father of Vijayakumar and a contract labourer, badly needed financial assistance.

Considering the family’s economic condition and Mr. Vijayakumar’s strong

academic ability, SIIL has decided to sponsor the higher studies of the student. Vijayakumar has now been enrolled for a three year engineering course at Anna University, Coimbatore, and Sterlite will sponsor the tuition fee for the subsequent course of study.

A cheque for Rs.7,500 was also given to a 42-year-old S. Madasamy, a contract labourer, to undergo an eye surgery.

R. Rajasekarapandy, Head – Corporate Social Responsibility, Suganthi Chelladurai, Associate Manager, and parents of Mr. Vijayakumar were also present on the occasion.
