Danseuse Sobha Naidu honoured

She received the ‘Natya Tapasvini’ title

CHENNAI: Kuchipudi exponent Sobha Naidu was honoured with ‘Natya Tapasvini’ title at the tenth anniversary celebration of Chennai-based Sri Kalasudha Telugu Association held in the city on Saturday.

The association founder president, B.Srinivas, said that Ms. Naidu has received several awards, including the prestigious ‘Padma Shri’ given in 2001 for her contribution towards the art form. The association also presented her with a golden crown at the anniversary celebrations.

Participating in the celebrations, Commissioner of Police R.Sekar commended the efforts of the association to promote Telugu culture and art forms. Member of Parliament Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy extended his support to the association activities.

Kuchipudi performance

The function also had ‘Kalyana Srinivasam,’ a Kuchipudi ballet performance by Ms.Naidu. Art director Thota Tharani and actor Srikanth participated.

The association, which was started in 1998, is involved in promoting cultural activities and honoured veteran artistes.

It also screens Telugu movies every week. At present, there were about 370 members in the association, Mr.Srinivasan added.
