Plan to cover Defence Colony drain, develop a green belt Constructing clover leaves, underpass at Sarita Vihar flyover NEW DELHI: Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy laid the foundation stone of two development projects at Defence Colony and Sarita Vihar in the Capital over the weekend. To be undertaken by the Delhi Development Authority, the first project involves covering of the Defence Colony drain and development of a green belt and the second pertains to construction of clover leaves and underpass at the Sarita Vihar flyover. Addressing the Defence Colony residents, Mr. Reddy said development of green after covering the drain was not only important for local residents but also for entire Delhi. Besides the two projects, a number of other development projects have been financed by the Urban Development Fund, Mr. Reddy said. This fund is built up with the money that people pay for conversion of their leasehold property to freehold property. Laying the foundation stone for the Sarita Vihar flyover clover leaves project, Mr. Reddy said Delhi was a big city where the rich and the poor both live. “Providing basic civic amenities to unauthorised colonies is equally important. Regularisation of the colonies has been taken up on a large scale after a gap of about 30 years,” he added. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
