MGU women triumph

PALA: Mahatma Gandhi University regained the women’s title in the all-India inter-University cross country championship in Rohtak on Monday.

The team with the least number of points wins the title and Mahatma Gandhi, represented by S.R. Bindu, P.M. Sinimol, Karthika Mohanan, Manju Mathew, Jomy Jose and Ann Mary Jose, bagged the title after a three-year break.

The host MDU (Rohtak) finished runner-up, while defending champion Calicut was third in the women’s event.

MDU (Rohtak) lifted the men’s title with Karnataka and Rajasthan taking the next two spots.

The final placings: Men: 1. MDU, Rohtak (37 points), 2. Karnataka (68), 3. Rajasthan.

Women: 1. Mahatma Gandhi, Kottayam (59), 2. MDU, Rohtak (67), 3. Calicut (118). — Principal Correspondent
