Special Correspondent

COIMBATORE: Led by Minister for Slum Clearance Suba Thangavelan and Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam sent 1,000 telegrams from here on Monday to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to press for steps to end attacks on Tamils in Sri Lanka.

CM’s call

This was in response to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s call to the people to send the telegrams, demanding an end to the “genocide of Tamils” in Sri Lanka.

Apart from the Ministers, district office-bearers, councillors and members of various wings of the party converged on the Central Telegraph Office in the city to send the telegrams to the Prime Minister’s office.

The district units of the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam and Viduthalai Siruthaigal Katchi sent 100 telegrams each.
