In view of the demand, YSR approves Jagan’s entry into politics

KADAPA: Four years after waiting in the wings, Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, son of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, will take the plunge into politics and contest the Lok Sabha elections from Kadapa constituency next year.

His formal entry into public life has been facilitated by his uncle, Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy, who has offered to vacate the Kadapa seat in his favour.

Mr. Vivekananda Reddy, who has been a reluctant politician, made a formal announcement about his nephew’s political plans through a signed statement he issued in Pulivendula on Tuesday.

Mr. Vivekananda Reddy, younger brother of the Chief Minister, had in fact, even resigned his Lok Sabha seat soon after being elected in May 2004 with a majority of 1.29 lakh votes as he proposed to settle down in the United States where his daughter resides.

This was expected to pave way for Mr. Jagan to get elected to the Parliament, but for some strange reasons withdrew it later.

Mr. Jagan’s followers in the Congress have been staging rallies for quite some time now demanding that he take the plunge.

Mr. Vivekananda Reddy said that in view of this demand, the Chief Minister and his family members had approved his entry into politics.

Mr. Jagan had been playing a key role in Congress and moulding the party cadre, especially youth, he said.

Describing him as a young leader possessing leadership qualities, the Kadapa MP said he had also been taking the Government schemes to the rural people.

Expressing happiness at the decision of the Chief Minister’s family, Mr. Vivekananda Reddy appealed to people to bless Mr. Jagan and elect him with an overwhelming majority.

The two-time MP also appealed to the people to re-elect Dr. Reddy as Chief Minister in the next elections.

Party work

Mr. Vivekananda Reddy reportedly told his confidantes that he would actively take up Congress party work. Mr. Jagan was unavailable for comment.
