Madikeri: Youth organisations in Kodagu: ‘Yuvaka Mandali’ and ‘Yuvati Mandali’ and five youth would be felicitated at the Kodagu District Youth Convention on October 13 in recognition of their service to society. Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly K.G.Bopaiah will inaugurate the event. The convention will be held under the auspices of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Kodagu District Yuva Okkoota, and taluk Yuva Okkootas of Virajpet, Madikeri and Somwarpet. Assistant Director of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Kodagu, Suresh Kandavara, told presspersons here on Tuesday that five youth would be chosen for the District Yuva Awards, which would carry a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 to each of them besides the citation. One best ‘Yuvaka Mandali’ and the best ‘Yuvati Mandali’ would be given cash award of Rs. 10,000 each, Mr. Kandavara said. Ten sportspersons who have excelled in State and national-level competitions during 2007-08 would be given cash award of Rs. 10,000 each. P.K. Rajashekar, professor of the Kannada Adhyayana Samste, University of Mysore, will deliver a lecture on “Youth in National Integration”.
