Rain lashes Krishnagiri, water enters houses

KRISHNAGIRI: Heavy rain lashed Krishnagiri district on Monday night. Rainwater entered houses in low-level areas on Royakottai Road.

Rainfall

Thali registered a rainfall of 86 mm, the highest in the district. Krishnagiri registered 81.3mm, Hosur 40 mm, Krishnagiri Dam area 36.4 mm, Anjetty 31 mm and Sulagiri 6 mm.

The district is witnessing normal to heavy rain for the last four days during night time.

Rainwater entered the houses on 7th Cross Street in Rajaji Nagar area.

Residents had sleepless night removing the water from the houses.

Drains

Some house owners, who live in the area for the last two decades, said that amenities such as road and storm water drains were not provided in the area even though they paid tax regularly.

Of the seven streets in Rajaji Nagar, only two had tar roads laid by the Kattiganappalli panchayat.

Street lights

Street lights were not functioning for the last six months. Complaints to the authorities did not yield any results.

G. Subramanian, Block Development Officer, visited Rajaji Nagar on Tuesday morning and told the residents that he would initiate remedial measures.

Panchayat president Perumal visited the area and helped the people in removing the rainwater.

He said the panchayat was taking steps to lay roads and provide other basic amenities one by one.
