Blood donation awards presented

KOCHI: The national blood donation week was concluded at a function held on Tuesday at the IMA Blood Bank. T. Vikram, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kochi City, inaugurated the valedictory function.

Mr. Vikram also presented the awards instituted by the IMA Blood Bank to promote blood donation. Among the educational institutes, M.A. College of Engineering bagged the award for conducting most number of blood donation camps. Smoothride Two-Wheeler, won the award in the industries sector and DYFI, Irimpanam won the award in the social organisation section.

There were also 30 individuals who were honoured for donating blood a maximum of three times a year. The IMA Blood Bank had organised a number of camps during the week collecting around 60-70 units of blood.

At the function, Dr. K. A. Clement, treasurer, IMA Blood Bank, welcomed the gathering. Dr. V. P. Kuriyipe, chairman, IMA Blood Bank, presided. Dr. Abraham K. Paul, president, IMA, Kochi; Dr. E. Varghese Mathew, former chairman of IMA Blood Bank; Dr. V. D. Pradeep Kumar, chairman, IMA State Committee for Blood Bank and Blood Donation; and Rajeev Menon, president of Cochin Blood Donors’ Forum, spoke on the occasion. Dr. N. Dinesh, secretary, IMA, Kochi, proposed a vote of thanks.
