Now, Sivakasi leaves a mark in musical fireworks too

SIVAKASI: On its maiden foray into musical fireworks, Standard Fireworks, Sivakasi, has carved a niche for itself by winning the trophy at an international music fireworks festival held in Japan in August.

After switching over to aerial displays from just sound-making crackers, the success goes on to prove that Sivakasi has also mastered one of the sophisticated pyrotechnics.

Standard Fireworks has developed an indigenous technology to shower dazzling colours in the sky synchronised with music. The 10-minute show displayed at Isesaki, Japan, on August 30, has also displayed the superior potential of Indian fireworks industry in the international arena. “We know India for the IT industry. But, till today, we did not know that it is for fireworks too,” said a commentator on a Japanese radio, says Rajasingh Chelladurai, Technical Director of Standard Fireworks.

A total of 13 technicians, including 11 from the Chinese unit of Standard Fireworks, led by Mr. Rajasingh, made it a grand spectacle synchronising with Indian music, specially composed for the show. The show did leave around the six-lakh audience awe-struck.

The other participants were from China, Japan and Korea. The aerial display with high precision was electronically controlled. “We used Chinese chemicals but the expertise was ours,” Mr. Rajasingh says. After tasting success in its first-ever attempt, Standard Fireworks is now gearing up for the World Championship of Pyromusicals scheduled for July 2009. “We can conduct the show for our audience, provided we get clearance from various government agencies. A vacant space of 1000 feet by 1000 feet surrounded by wetland will be ideal in safety aspect,” Mr. Rajasingh says.
