Police foil attempt to lift vehicles; smash gang

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi police claim to have smashed a gang of robbers and foiled its alleged attempt to lift vehicles from the Kalkaji temple parking area.

Three motorcycles and some sophisticated arms and ammunition have been recovered from the gang, the police said on Tuesday.

Tip-off

Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap in Okhla Phase-II on Monday. They arrested two suspects — Manish and Mukul — and recovered one stolen bike from them, the police said.

After their interrogation, the police laid another trap at Puri Chowk. They noticed three suspicious-looking young men on two motorcycles. Their search led to the recovery of three pistols and live cartridges.

They were identified as Sachin, Ajay and Shekhar. The bikes had been stolen from R.K. Puram and Dwarka.

The police said Sachin was previously involved in cases of robbery and snatching in Delhi and Ghaziabad. He recently formed a new gang by involving other auto lifters from his locality.

The gang was eyeing newly purchased vehicles in the parking bay of Kalkaji temple.
