New Delhi: After suffering two successive defeats, India finally got back to winning ways when it beat Indonesia 1-0 to end its campaign in the AFC Cup under-16 football championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Thursday. The win helped India finish third in Group ‘A,’ which was topped by South Korea after it drew 1-1 with Syria in the last round of matches. Manandeep, who was making his first start in the tournament, headed home Ashish Chettri’s cross in the 43rd minute to give India the victory. Colin Toal’s wards, who lost 2-5 to South Korea and 0-3 to Syria, were already out of the tournament before they took on the Indonesians. They also missed the services of midfielder Ralte Lalrindika, who was suspended for the match after picking up his second yellow card of the tournament against Syria. — PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
