Canara Bank posts win

BANGALORE: Canara Bank scored a 3-2 victory over Namdhari in the State Super Division hockey league at the SAI South Centre here on Thursday.

With this win, Canara Bank (13 points) has won four besides a draw and a loss. Though it was the bankmen who went ahead through Bipin Boppoaiah in the very first minute, Namdhari, not only equalised in the 10th through Gurvinder Singh, but even forged ahead when Karamjeet Singh found the mark.

However, Bipin equalised four minutes before the half-time. Penalty-corner specialist Rama Rao sounded the boards in the 57th to help Canara Bank walk away with full points.

Volleyball meet

The Association Cup volleyball championship, for the Sri Chowdeshwari Charitable Trust Trophy will be held at the Basavanagudi Youth Club courts, Nettakalappa Circle, from October 13 to 19.

The teams:

Men: Group A: KSP, Jindal SC, ITI SC, CIL, Sports Hostel (Bangalore). Group B: MEG, South Western Railway (Hubli), Postal, SAI and BEL.

Women: KSP, Mysore Sports Hostel, Vidyanagar Sports Hostel and BMS Club.

TT tournament

The Hubli Table Tennis Association and Maharashtra Mandal will jointly organise the ninth Karnataka State-ranking tournament for the State Bank of India Cup from October 11 to 14 at the Dr. K.S. Sharma Kalyan Sabha Bhavan, Gokul Road, Hubli.
