City I takes first-innings lead

CHENNAI: Mitchell Anthony’s unbeaten 78 guided City I, with one wicket standing, to the first-innings lead over Combined Districts I in a TNCA under-14 round-robin cricket match.

The scores: Combined Districts I 299 for seven in 90 overs (R. Charan 75, Dhuruv Dev 45, Siddarth 34, S. Harish Babu 40, J. Kaushik 77 n.o.) drew with City I 300 for nine in 90 overs (Karthik Ganesh 78, Mohammed Mushtaq 38, Mitchell Anthony 78 n.o., V. Aditya 44).

Combined Districts II 161 in 45.5 overs (J. Prasanna Venkatesh 27, Pandidurai 26, P. Akash Ram four for 25) and 160 in 57.1 overs (N. Jagadeesan 50, Krishna Kumar 28, Kaushik U. Ram four for 40) drew with City III 122 in 57.2 overs (R. Rateesh Manikandan 26, B. Aditya three for 22, Arun Nivas three for 24) and 93 for eight in 28 overs (Geeth Puri 43, J. Prasanna Venkatesh four for 27).

Penultimate round

The penultimate round of the UCAL ROLON National Road Racing Championship 2008 begins this weekend at the Madras Motor Race Track in Irungattukottai.

Saturday’s qualifying session will be followed by the main races on Sunday. Without substantial leads in most classes, points earned this weekend could be crucial in deciding the championship.

After three rounds in the expert category, Harry Sylvester leads the Group ‘D’ four-stroke 165cc class with 84 points, with K. Rajini in second with 73 points. Rajini leads the Group ‘B’ four-stroke 130-165cc class with 88, ahead of Sylvester, who has 72 points.

K. Vinodh heads the field in the Group ‘B’ four-stroke 260cc class with 83 points
