Commendable: Finance Minister K.Anbazhagan giving a prize to a student at the 75th anniversary celebrations of C.D.Nayagam Theyagarayanagar Higher Secondary School in Chennai on Thursday. CHENNAI: Teachers should inculcate the habit of reading books among students at school level itself, Finance Minister K.Anbazhagan said here on Thursday. Inaugurating a library at C.D.Nayagam Theyagarayanagar Higher Secondary School and the school’s 75th anniversary celebrations, Mr.Anbazhagan said if the reading habit was cultivated among students they would naturally develop the habit of going to libraries. Only by reading books, students could improve their general knowledge. While stressing the need for Tamil as medium of instruction in schools and colleges, he wanted the students to have a good expertise in English too. He complimented C.D.Nayagam for starting a school for the underprivileged class at a time when education was considered to be the privilege of a few. D.N.Deivanayagam, president of the school, said that the library, constructed at a cost of Rs.14 lakh, had 15,000 books. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
