Staff Correspondent

HUBLI: Well-known ophthalmic surgeon M.M. Joshi has said that changes in socio-economic conditions and related factors are responsible for the neglect of vision problems among the aged.

Speaking at a programme organised here on Thursday to mark “World Sight Day”, Dr. Joshi said that vision problems among the aged had become a major issue. Negligence towards the problems had only affected the quality of life of the aged, he added.

District Health Officer Sunil Avaradi elaborated on how negligence was contributing to eye problems not only among the aged, but also among the younger generation. Dr. Avaradi said that Dr. M.M. Joshi Eye Institute was contributing substantially in meeting the cataract surgery target in Dharwad district by organising eye surgery camps in rural areas.
