Diju-Jwala pair in last four

HYDERABAD: V. Diju and Jwala Gutta of India moved into the mixed doubles semifinals of the KLRC Bulgarian Grand Prix badminton championship with a 13-21, 21-11, 21-9 win over Lindley David and Rayappan Suzanne, according to information received here on Friday.

Meanwhile, Aditi Mutatkar in the women’s singles and Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas in the men’s doubles reached the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Shruti loses

Aditi defeated Olga Golovanova of Russia 21-18, 21-6 to reach the last 16 stage even as Shruti Kurian lost to Russian Anastasia Proopenko 11-21, 19-21 in the women’s singles second round.

Rupesh and Sanave got a walkover against Tichomir Kirov and Konstantin Kostadinov of Bulgaria in men’s doubles, while Diju and Jwala overcame the French pair of Baptiste Careme and Laura Choinet 21-13, 18-21, 21-12 in the mixed doubles pre-quarterfinals.

In men’s singles, Abhimanyu Singh defeated Sune Gavnholt of Denmark 21-18, 13-21, 21-18 and P. Kashyap beat Czech Republic’s Tomas Kopriva 21-14, 21-18 to reach the pre-quarterfinals.

Shruti later teamed up with Jwala to breeze past the French pair of Elisa Chanteur and Choinet 21-11, 21-11 in women’s doubles.
