REVIEW MEET: Fisheries Minister S. Sarma addressing a special meeting convened at Infopark on Friday to assess the progress of the proposed SmartCity project. KOCHI: In an effort to hasten the proposed SmartCity Kochi project, a core committee with the District Collector as chairperson has been formed to look into the hurdles interrupting the progress of the project. This was the major decision taken at a specially convened meeting of the project stakeholders held here at Infopark on Friday. Briefing mediapersons after the meet, Fisheries and Registration Minister S. Sarma, who is also the chairman of SmartCity Kochi, said the committee would submit a report within a week based on which decisions would be taken to resolve the problems. The committee would look into relocation of equipment belonging to the erstwhile Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) on a section of the project land and relocation of a Public Works Department (PWD) road passing through the middle of the project site. The core committee has representatives of the PWD, electricity department, and SmartCity as its members, Mr. Sarma said. The Minister said the Chief Secretary has been asked to settle within a week an issue in which an inhabitant on the project site approached the court against his displacement. Mr. Sarma said the government pleader and advocates had conveyed their opinion based on which instructions would be given to the Chief Secretary. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
