5 held for theft in lodges

CHENNAI: The police have arrested five persons for thefts in mansions and lodges in the city.

The police recently began a surveillance of lodges. On suspicion, the police arrested Sulaiman Sadiq (25), Al Ameen (35), Sekar (28), Kumar alias Veerabadran (28), Azhagarsami alias Padmanaban alias Deen Muhamad (37) on Friday.

According to the police, the accused would claim that they were running employment agencies for foreign firms and took rooms on rent in lodges. They would then make duplicates of the keys.

After a few days, the four would either seek a different room or would vacate one of the two rooms they had rented. They would then use the duplicate keys to rob valuables and cash of the persons who occupy the rooms . The accused have allegedly carried on their operations in lodges in Pondy Bazaar, Vadapalani and Wall Tax areas.
