NEW DELHI: One worker was killed and three injured in a gas cylinder blast in a labour colony near a project site of Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Friday morning. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. Jawahar Mahto, 40, succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Babol Singh, who sustained grievous injuries, was later shifted to Indian Spinal Injuries Centre at Vasant Kunj. Two others were discharged after first-aid. The mishap took place in the labour colony near Terminal-3 of the airport that is under construction. A cooking gas cylinder caught fire when a worker was cooking food. “He threw the cylinder out of the room in panic. The cylinder burst injuring two of his colleagues,” said a statement by Delhi International Airport Limited which is developing the IGI Airport. Angry over the alleged inaction of the guards at the site, a group of workers hurled stones and suspended work on Friday. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
