Case registered for ragging

The Coimbatore Rural Police have registered a case against four second year diploma course students of a private polytechnic institute in Arasur near here.

According to the police, Sanjay (16), son of Sreenivasan of Wayanad in Kerala, had lodged a complaint with the Sulur police stating that Mohan, Nandakumar, Mohammed Shafi, Anis and two other second year students had ragged him.

Following his complaint, the institution authorities suspended the students. Sanjay alleged that

the four senior students had ill-treated him.

They made him remove his clothes and inflicted injuries on his body with a blade.

The police have registered a case against the students under Sections

324, 377, 506 (ii) of the Indian Penal Code besides Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Ragging Act.

Inquiries are on a

gainst the polytechnic authorities too.
