Centre to have 51 p.c. stake

HYDERABAD: The government of India will have 51 per cent share in the atomic power plant as stipulated by the Nuclear Energy Act under which NPCIL is the sole and competent authority to take up nuclear power stations in the country. A technical team headed by APGenco Director G. Vaman Rao, which was deputed by the State government to prepare a feasibility report has come out with a blueprint after a visit to the NPCIL headquarters in Mumbai and made a presentation to the Chief Minister. Mr. Vaman Rao served NPCIL for over decade earlier. According to these proposals, the cost of the project may work out to Rs 7.5 to 8 crore a MW. Water required for the project, estimated at over 3.5 tmcft, will have to be drawn from Brahmamgari Mattam in Kadapa district, a balancing reservoir of the Telugu Ganga project.
