NEW DELHI: Top seed Ronit Bisht got the better of an error-prone Arjun Kadhe to clinch the under-14 boys’ singles title in the DSCL National mini-junior tennis championship at the DLTA Complex, here on Saturday.

Bisht of Delhi was rusty at start and lost his serve in the fourth game of the opening set. But he reorganised himself and played with more determination to beat Kadhe 6-3, 6-1.

Unforced errors

Kadhe of Maharashtra played well in patches but his unforced errors posed hurdles for him.

A triumphant Bisht admitted that he was not at his best at the beginning.

“I was a bit down. Then played with more determination and got into the rhythm,” he said.

The title triumph brought double delight for Bisht, who along with Kadhe had won the doubles trophy on Friday defeating Vishal Passi and Ajay Yadav 6-2, 6-2 in the final.

Ninth seed Sansita Nandakumar of Tamil Nadu fought back to beat Prarthana Thombare 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 to emerge the champion in the girls’ section.

After the gruelling final which lasted nearly two-and-a-half hours, Sansita said she did not lose hope despite trailing by one set.

“In the first set some unforced errors did not help me. But in the middle of the second set, I realised that I still could win it and gave my best,” she said.

Maharashtra’s Thombare, on Friday, won the doubles crown along with Tirtha Iska.

The Thombare-Iska pair beat Amrita Mukherjee and Sai Samhitha 6-4, 6-1 for the title.
