Dempo beats Vasco

Margao: Defending champion Dempo edged past a fighting Vasco 2-1 to register its first win in the ONGC I-League, here on Sunday.

Dempo scored through Roberto Silva (24th) and Ranty Martins (30th). Dempo, which lost to JCT in its first match, now has three points from two matches. Vasco, which suffered its second defeat, has one point from as many matches.

Vasco, which showed a lot of fighting qualities, reduced the margin through the Uzbekistan striker Ravshan Teshabaev.

The win is a morale booster for Dempo which plays its return match against Safa Club of Lebanon in the semifinals of the AFC Cup on October 21. — PTI
