Jama Bandhi meetings in Karaikal

Special Correspondent

KARAIKAL: In a bid to bring the administration to the people’s doorsteps, Collector N. Vasanthakumar and other officials will conduct Jama Bandhi meetings in the district.

The Collector said that senior officials from all the departments would visit all the six firkas in the district on seven Sundays, starting at Nedungadu on November 9.

The officials would make on-the-spot assessments of the progress of the various schemes and also hear the grievances of the people on issues ranging from ration cards, employment, giving of pattas etc. “There is very little awareness of government schemes among the people. Also they find it difficult to address their issues to the administration. So we are holding this Jama Bandhi along the Tamil Nadu model, in schools with good connectivity for people to meet the concerned officials directly,” Dr. Vasanthakumar said.

The local representatives and local body leaders will also participate in the sessions, the Collector said, adding that he had also sent a request to the Chief Minister and the Revenue Minister to attend one of the sessions.
