More amenities at Tirumala - Reader's Mail

Tirumala witnessed a record turnout of pilgrims for ‘Garuda Seva’ festival. Though there was no problem in arranging adequate food and water to pilgrims, most of them had to sleep on the pavements, skip bathing and face problems due to inadequate toilet facilities. Instead of constructing big cottages that benefit a few, the TTD should create portable dormitories, lockers, toilets and bathing facilities. There is also need for the TTD to discourage large influx of pilgrims on festival days by taking a vigorous propaganda that ‘every day in Tirumala is a festival day.’

Focus on industrialisation

Rayalaseema in general and Anantapur in particular have not been able to make any progress in industrialisation. Establishing new industries based on locally available raw materials should take priority. Many of the old industries have grown sick. The revival of these industries should receive top priority.

The potential of small and medium scale industries has not been fully exploited. Therefore, experts and authorities of the industries department should work in unison to promote industrialisation on a large scale.

Convoys or death traps?

The death of a-6-year-old boy on the way to hospital (The Hindu, Sep. 28) made sad reading. We are ashamed to say that we live in a democracy where convoys of VVIPs tend to siege roads and public spaces. The father’s struggle to take the boy to a city hospital epitomises his concern for his dear son. And the refusal of the police to relent to the requests is reprehensible.
