RSP(B) decides to merge with RSP

Special Correspondent

KOCHI: The Revolutionary Socialist Party-Bolshevik (RSP-B) will merge with the RSP, said A.V. Thamarakshan, secretary of the former, here on Sunday.

He said the decision was taken unanimously at the State committee meeting of the party. No conditions had been set for the merger. He said breaking away from the RSP and forming the RSP(B) was a wrong decision.

There had been some efforts for bringing the breakaway groups of the RSP together. Pinarayi Vijayan, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary, had evinced interest in such a unity, Prof. Thamarakshan said.

The formal merger will take place in Kollam during the last week of November or the first week of December. V.P. Ramakrishna Pillai, RSP State general secretary, had given a call for the merger of the splinter groups with the parent party. There are two more groups, one led by the former Minister Babu Divakaran and the other by Shibu Baby John.

The RSP is trying hard to get back the Kollam Lok Sabha seat from the CPI(M) and the call for merger of all the three breakaway groups was issued with this end in view. However, only Prof. Thamarakshan has so far responded to the call. Mr. Baby John has made it clear that he has no plans to leave the United Democratic Front. Mr. Divakaran is yet to make his mind known.
