Learning how to act is tough, says expert

Udupi: Director of Regional Resource Centre of National School of Drama (NSD), Bangalore, Suresh Anagalli, said on Sunday that theatre is a live art.

He was speaking at the inaugural function of a month-long theatre training camp,

“Ranga abhinaya shibira”, organised by Ranga Bhumi, an organisation devoted to promotion of theatre, here.

Mr. Anagalli said that the drama, actors came in contact with live audience. While acting, an actor was expected to express through his body. “Learning how to act is tough as acting is both complex and creative,” he said.The NSD would be conducting a 45-day residential theatre training camp in Kerala, Mr. Anagalli said. Actor Mandya Ramesh, who is a resource person for the camp, said that Yakshagana was the best medium to portray the ill-effects of globalisation.

Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji of Puttige Math, who inaugurated the camp, said that modern times had had a negative impact on people. “The people are now acting most of the time. But, true acting by an actor on the stage requires a lot of hard work and dedication,” he said.
