Police Commissioner felicitated

VIJAYAWADA: A meeting organised by the Patabasti Abhivruddhi Porata Samithi (Struggle Committee for Development of One Town) on Sunday to felicitate the officials who conducted the Dasara festivities on Indrakeeladri in a successful manner, saw MP Lagadapati Rajagopal showering praises on Police Commissioner K.V. Rajendranath Reddy and taking a few potshots at the media.

Making a particular mention of the sensational case of murder of pharmacy student Ayesha Meera, Mr. Rajagopal said that the Police Commissioner had the credit of solving the long-pending case. Criticising the media for carrying its own investigation into the case, he said that the job should be left to the police.

“The media and political parties are not supposed to investigate cases. Because of the influence of movies, the media is resorting to detections and creating problems to the police,” he said. Mr. Rajagopal felt that details of such sensational cases should not be revealed to the media.

Criticising some political leaders for making the murder case a political issue, Mr. Rajagopal said though he visited the murder spot, he did not allow the media to take his photographs.

“We should not tag issues with caste, religion and region. Otherwise, small issues will become big problems,” he observed.

Thanking the Police Commissioner for allowing heavy vehicles into One Town, Mr. Rajagopal said that the decision had helped the traders of One Town revive their businesses, which were on the verge of moving to Two Town area.

“Mr. Reddy is kind towards the poor, particularly towards hawkers and auto-rickshaw drivers. He never takes decisions in haste. But once he takes a decision, he will never compromise on its implementation,” he said.

Mr. Reddy attributed the success of Dasara festivities to the two-month-long hard work done by the entire police machinery in the city.

“The police have to be strict on some occasions. Otherwise, it is not possible to ensure peace. Keeping in view the stampede on the hillock during Bhavani Deeksha Viramana in December last, we chalked out a comprehensive plan for Dasara festivities and implemented it with the help of other government departments,” he said.

Though the organisers invited VMC Commissioner P.S. Pradyumna, Sub-Collector Gaurav Uppal and Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivarla Devasthanam Executive Officer T. Chandra Kumar for the felicitation function, they did not turn up.

Vijayawada West MLA Sk. Nasar Vali, MLC Ilapuram Venkaiah, city Congress committee president Pyla Sominaidu, president and general secretary of the Samithi N. Srihari and K. Ramesh, respectively, and others were present.
