Resolve flood problem: CPI

VIJAYAWADA: CPI city secretary and former MLA K. Subba Raju on Sunday demanded that the Government take steps for finding a permanent solution to the Budameru floods, keeping the long-term interests of the residents in the surrounding colonies in view.

He was speaking at a meeting organised as part of a padayatra conducted in Rajeevnagar Colony in the 58th division of the VMC.

Mr. Subba Raju said that in the name of developing townships on the outskirts of the city, the government was playing with the lives of thousands of people without finding a long-term solution to their problem.

He demanded that instead of concentrating on townships, the Government should see to that there would be no floods in the Budameru stream by taking up developmental works.

Constant fear

Mr. Subba Raju said that the people on the outskirts were living in the constant fear of flood waters from the Budameru entering their colonies and houses whenever there would be copious rains in catchment areas.

He wanted the administration to come out with a plan for permanent relief to the people from these natural problems.

CPI city leaders Palla Surya Rao, P. Gowtham Reddy and others were present.
