Rumours against ICICI: case registered

Coimbatore: The Race Course Police have registered a case against a few unknown persons for sending SMS and posting messages on the internet/e-mail raising suspicion on the credibility of a private bank.

Jayachandran Nair, Regional Manager of ICICI Bank, Coimbatore, preferred a complaint stating that malicious rumours regarding the financial worthiness of the bank were being spread through SMS.

The police have registered the case under Sections 505 (i) (c) making statements, rumours, reports conducing to public life; and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 36 (A) (D) (1) (c) of the Banking Regulation Act of 1942.
