Women block road; demand full wages

KRISHNAGIRI: Fiflty women engaged by the Kattinayanapalli panchayat under the National Rural Employement Guarantee Scheme blocked road at Krishnagiri-Periasakkanavur, near here, on Tuesday demanding full wages.

Fifty-six people from Karadiviri, Malakuppam and Poojaripatti villages, including 53 women, are engaged in desilting of a lake here.

The women complained that they were given Rs. 80 in the first week, Rs. 64 in the second week, and Rs. 69 in the consequent weeks

“We are entitled to get Rs. 80. We are working for 7 hours a day,” they said

Traffic along this route was affected for more than 3 hours.
