News Analysis
* * An article “France and Europe are India’s first partners in the civil aviation sector” (Op-Ed, October 15, 2008) said that the Hyderabad exhibition will be the first occasion for an Airbus 380 demonstration flight at an air show in India. The statement is right, though this is the second visit of the Airbus A380 to India. It made its first landing in India — and as part of a world demonstration tour — at Delhi (May 6, 2007) and left for Mumbai two days later. * * A Page 1 report “Six burnt alive in Adilabad” (October 13, 2008) was repeated in some editions as “Six burnt to death in communal violence” on inside pages (October 13, 2008). It was an error by the editorial desk. * * An item “Karnataka posts win” (“Sport”, October 14, 2008), on the South Zone u-19 women’s cricket tournament at Anantapur, mentioned the name of the Tamil Nadu batsman who scored 40 as Shobana M. Bhaskar. It should have been Shibani M. Bhaskar. * * The photograph used in a front page promo (October 13, 2008) “Alonso wins Japanese GP” was that of Kubica, and not of winner Alonso. * * An item “Montgomery gets five years prison term” (“Snapshots – Sport”, October 11, 2008) said that Tim Montgomery was an Olympic champion. Some readers raised a doubt. He was one, having been a part of the U.S. 4x100m relay team which won gold in the 2000 Olympics and the 4x100m silver in the 1996 Olympics.
