NEW DELHI: Taking a serious note of the rape of a minor German girl, allegedly by the elder son of Goa’s Education Minister Atanasio Monseratte, the National Commission for Women will seek a report on the incident from the State. Talking to journalists here on Wednesday, NCW chairperson Girija Vyas said the Commission could also send a team to enquire into the matter. Rohit, 21, has been accused of sexually and mentally abusing the 14-year-old victim. Speaking on a wide range of issues, Ms. Vyas said the Commission hoped that the Maharashtra government’s new law that legalised ‘live-in’ relationships was not misused. The Commission would set up a committee to study the law before giving any firm opinion. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
