NEW DELHI: In the wake of the incident earlier this week where a woman delivered a baby outside the Maternity and Child Care Centre of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi at Jwala Vihar, the civic body has decided to launch a comprehensive programme for upgrading all maternity centres in the area under its jurisdiction. The decision was announced by MCD Standing Committee chairman Vijender Gupta at a meeting of the committee on Wednesday. Mr. Gupta said: “We plan to increase the number of doctors at such centres and ensure that they are available round-the-clock. Those doctors who do not report for night duties as they live in far-off areas would be replaced by new doctors. Surprise visits by the Standing Committee would also be carried out at these centres.” © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
