Clubs are also no-smoking areas

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday said all ‘clubs’ came under the purview of public places and hence were no-smoking areas as per the ban imposed on October 2 under Section 4 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003.

A statement by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry said restaurants and refreshment rooms within clubs were also public places where smoking is banned.

However, if they have a seating capacity of 30 people or more, they may create a separate smoking area or space. These areas or spaces shall be used only for smoking and no other services shall be allowed, the statement said.
