Don’t believe media reports of alliances: KCR

HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhara Rao on Thursday asked party workers not to give credence to speculative reports in the media about the political allies that the TRS would sign up with, in the general elections.

At the valedictory of a two-day training programme for cadres from Adilabad, Hanamkonda and Mahbubabad Assembly constituencies, he said he would invite over 50 leaders from each Assembly constituency and have brain-storming sessions with them. “You are the ones who talk to people everyday and you will decide who our allies will be, because I am answerable to you,” he said to applause.

Seeking to infuse confidence in the TRS cadres, he said that after a protracted struggle of eight long years, they were at a stage when all that was required was a firm, confident push to pressurise the Centre to give the go-ahead for carving out a separate State. He reminded them that if any one could take credit for bringing the struggle to this stage, it was the TRS cadres.

Mr. Rao said it was an irony that in the year 2004, only the Congress party spoke of Telangana while most others were quiet and that now when every political party was talking of a separate State, the Congress was keeping mum and cooking up excuse after excuse.

He explained to them that over the years, the TRS could convince 35 of the 45 parties that had representatives in Parliament and garner their support.

Yet, the Congress was adamant, he said.
