‘SP writes on women issues’

Collector describes the book as a torch-bearer for the employed women

PUDUKOTTAI: A book exclusively analysing women-related issues was released at a function organised by the Pudukottai Literary Forum here recently.

The book, titled ‘Pennmai vazhga’ and authored by the Superintendent of Police, P. Moorthi, is written in a question-answer form, throwing light on the various odds the women, particularly the office-goers, face in their daily routine.

Releasing the book, the Collector Reeta Harish Thakkar said that the book has carefully handled a series of issues, some of which even a majority of the office-goers would hesitate to express. The book, she said, would create awareness among the targeted women towards the goal of shunning their inhibitions in protecting their rights. She described the book as a torch-bearer for the employed women.

Former Minister and the president of the Kamban Kazhagam, Chennai, R.M. Veerappan, said that the book was a mirror of various discrimination being meted out to women. The portrayal of women as an integral part of life’s ethics was the highlight of each and every chapter of the book, he said.

In his acceptance address, Mr. Moorthi said that the objective of the book was to create awareness among women about the need for protecting their equal rights and safeguarding their equal opportunities guaranteed to them. The objective of the book was to relieve the women of their sufferings under societal pressure.

The first copy of the book was received by the State president of Bakery Federation of India, S. Chinnappa.

The function also marked felicitation to G. M. Kanagarajan, the recipient of the ‘National Best Teacher’ award.

The Founder of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Arts and Science, Perambalur, A. Srinivasan presided over the function. The Founder of the Pudukottai Literary Forum, M. Muthu Srinivasan; the Director of Centre for Women’s Studies, Bharathidasan University, N. Manimekalai were among those who spoke.
