Aduri Satyavathi Devi

Visakhapatnam: Noted Telugu poetess Aduri Satyavathi Devi passed away here on Thursday. She died due to cancer. She was 59 and is survived by her husband Aduri Venkata Sitarama Murthy, himself a noted short story writer, and two sons.Satyavathi Devi and Mr. Sitarama Murthy were a famous couple in the Telugu literary circles. Three free verse compilations of Satyavathi Devi were brought out so far. They were Rekka Mudavani Raagam, Jalapata Geetam and Yeyyivennela Velugulu. Two more were yet to be published. She also wrote many songs for AIR, which were composed by Tirupati Ramajuna Suri.

Satyavathi Devi received many awards, including the Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University and the Devulapalli Krishna Sastry award. She had the unique distinction among the literary figures of this region with one of her poems having been included in the common core syllabus of all State universities.
