Rs. 930 MSP for ‘A’ grade paddy

HYDERABAD: Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy has described the hike of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy by Rs. 50 per quintal by the Union Government as a “final victory” of the pro-farmer Rajasekhara Reddy Government.

Reacting on the hike in a statement here on Thursday, the Minister said the increase turned out to be a Deepavali gift offered to the farmers in the State by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre.

With this, the Minimum Support Price for ‘A’ grade paddy would go up to Rs. 930 per quintal from Rs. 880 and in case of common variety, the MPS would go up to Rs. 900 from Rs. 850.

Compared to these high rates, the Minimum Support Price paid up to 2004 was mere Rs. 580 per quintal for ‘A’ grade variety and Rs. 550 for common variety.
