Special events will be held for schoolchildren

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Canine Club (HCC) in association with Pedigree, a pet food company, is conducting HyCan Dog Sports Show on October 19 (Sunday) for dog owners, trainers, breeders and schoolchildren in the city with special events for each one of them. The show will be held at Wesley Junior College Grounds in Secunderabad between 2 and 8 p.m.

Special programmes have been planned for the children such as doggy quiz, dog and owner lookalike competition and doggy trick competition where the children display their dog training skills.

Expert advice

Dog owners can get expert advice on the needs of their pets such as food, health, training and breeds of dogs. “We are expecting about 25 dog trainers to participate in the show. They will explain all the aspects a dog needs to be trained in,” said Phillip Butt, joint secretary, HCC.

The pet lovers can learn more about the breeds at ‘Discover Your Dog’ event.

“They can know which breed suits their home atmosphere and how to rear them,” said Mr. Butt.

About 30 breeders are participating in the show. At the ‘Safe with dog’ event, children can learn how to befriend a new dog and defend themselves from the attack of stray dogs.

Sensitising people

N. Balasubramanian, sales director of Pedigree, said that the show was aimed at sensitising people about dogs. “Unlike the routine dog shows, which are meant for the experts of the field, HyCan is an event for diffusing information about dog needs,” he said. The company is displaying its dog food varieties at the show, including ‘Pedigree Vegetarian’ for dogs owned by vegetarian owners.
